Do you feel neglected when your partner is on their phone?
Does your time together get disrupted by texts, emails, or games?
Has technology intruded on your romantic relationship?
Phones become easy.
But I suspect that they’re stealing something important from us.
Being attached to your phone seems to sabotage your attachment with your loved one.
It is ruining marriages and other inter-personal relations.
Hence, the smartphone has been described as “the electronic enemy of love.”
It’s pretty common walking into a restaurant and spotting a family out for dinner and, not a word exchanged all the while they are there because they are all engrossed with their phones.
We revolve around our phones, our laptops, and tablets.
I don’t want to share divorce percentage for smartphones.
You will find it or assume it by recent lifestyle with smartphones.
Seriously, think about the fact and read the main reasons.
Let’s discuss 5 ways a smartphone can destroy your marital life.
1. Text Life :
Do you find it’s easy to text but not as easy to talk?
“The odd text message is good for sharing something quickly if you cannot connect on the phone and something important needs to be arranged. It can also feel special to receive or express a loving message like “I’m thinking of you” “I love you” etc.”
But nowadays texting becomes a core way of communication with partners.
Even couple argue via text.
Texting your grievances may seem like a good idea as you won’t be interrupted in getting your point across but it FAILS to resolve issues, to convey your true feelings and often leads to more hurt, resentment, and negativity.
Even worse than this, if done repeatedly couples start to ignore or become unaffected by their spouse’s remarks and start ignoring each other.
Shutdown in a relationship is the first stage of damaging decline.
Remember a few practical facts, if someone gives you a hug, strokes your arm, that releases a chemical called oxytocin which makes you feel bonded to that person.
So when it comes to time together in person, put the phones away and talk and laugh with each other instead.
Using text from a smartphone can destroy your marital life silently.
2. No Free time :
As we move from one task to the next, we often check our phone or get caught up online.
Our free time becomes phone time.
Some of the most private moments couples have are in bed.
According to a study by the University of Chicago, the mere presence of a phone in the room causes a decrease in cognitive capacity and attentional focus, because you subconsciously worry about missed notifications. Which, of course, makes it hard to really be with your S.O.
Don’t cuddle with your phone instead of your partner.
Don’t make your free time as phone time.
One study found the average person checks the phone 46 times a day.
I think it’s probably higher than that.
Time to think about this now, today.
3. Phone Takes Place in Bed :
You’ve probably heard of lovers who actually answer texts or look at the phone while lovemaking.
That is a surefire way of pushing your spouse away.
But just having the phone under your pillow, at your side, or on your nightstand can be a relationship killer.
It can be very frustrating to wake up hearing and seeing your partner in the middle of the night emailing or and texting.
Same with checking your phone in bed before you have engaged, it’s a passion killer too.
Instead of interacting with your spouse at the end of the day in bed, you’re both on your phones.
You are also missing the chance for intimacy.
If you are looking at your phone rather than in your partner’s eyes, there can be no intimacy.
4. Social Media and Games Vs Real Life :
Although women can certainly overdo video games, men tend to be more at risk for video game addiction.
In this age of selfies and likes, women can spend endless hours scrolling through photos of friends, acquaintances, celebrities, and cute animals.
Social media can have a negative impact on our mood and relationships.
The research shows that if you are spending time scrolling through social media, it can make you feel more depressed.
Even spare moments can easily be filled with a quick peek at Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or the like.
Once there, it’s easy to lose track of time.
5. Photo and Real experience :
Lastly, in the quest to connect virtually many smartphone users have become snap happy.
When you constantly take selfies or photos of everything you are pausing and therefore disconnecting with reality and the people in it.
By snapping away for the ultimate photo and perfect smile, special moments can pass as our attention.
Precious romantic moments can be lost, as we are not truly present for our partner.
When we do this we lose the experience of happiness.
As we are happiest when our minds are fully present, fully embraced in the now.
If we constantly are engaging with our phones, and checking for others approval or replies to messages, or use it to fill moments of emptiness, then we turn off real life.
